Just When

The Moodsingers are set to perform and record their first ever CD next week. The choir will be recording their own rendition of the Michael Ball classic ‘Just When’ at the Blue Room studios on the 16th May.
The ‘Moodsingers’ was set up by opera singer David Owen Lewis and Moodswings  support project worker Gavin Bailey in an effort to improve people’s confidence.
Gavin explained: “We work on the belief that people can recover from severe mood problems and can move on to lead happier and fuller lives, we do this by offering a get up and go attitude, we don’t dwell on the past we look forward to the future.”
He went on to explain how the CD idea was put together “Linda Wilson the Service Manager of the charity approached Michael and told him the plans for the choir to sing one of his songs; Michael said he loved what we were doing and gave his permission to record the song.”
One in three people will suffer with some form of mental health issue, whether it be depression, anxiety or anger issues. The choir’s aim is to offer a form of release from the stresses of day to day life, it gives people the chance to express themselves and get involved with society.
Gavin said “Singing is part of your body, so effectively singing is part of you. It affects your mood in such a positive way. The act of singing just helps boost your mood and your self confidence”
Many of the choir who meet every Monday to practice suffered severely with depression many lacked in self confidence and wouldn’t even look at one another. Now with the help of David and Gavin, the difference is astounding, not one of the members leaves without a smile on their face.
Jackie has been a member of the Moodsingers for two years: “I have had bi polar for a long time so Moodswings said I should join in with the choir just to give me something different to focus on, it is phenomenal how effective a sing song can be. You can see people in the group blossom, when I first joined some people were seriously ill and part of their recovery has been the singing group. You can just see us all grow.”
“The CD is great, we are all like wow it is something we never thought we would do, and the words just fit with the idea of the charity, people getting up from the depths of despair.”
