Thanks to the Rod Stewart Chronicle £5870.38p was raised for Moodswings this month after a very successful fund-raiser weekend. Each year the Rod Stewart fan club host the ‘Big Weekend’ event in aid of their chosen charity, and this time it was lucky enough to be us...(approved by Rod himself of course!)
A fun time was had by all in Blackpool at the Norbreck Castle Hotel, with fans and even Rod look-a-likes flooding in from all over the UK to be entertained by impersonators and live music from Rod’s tribute bands as well as getting to meet his sister and spokesperson Mary.
Auctions were held across the weekend to sell all sorts of merchandise to raise money, from signed photographs to clothes worn by Rod, including a leather jacket.
‘I think it’s wonderful’ said our Chairman Tom McAlpine; ‘we were made to feel very welcome by everyone and met a lot of lovely, generous people. The money raised will be very well used, giving our people the help and support they need and for that we’re extremely grateful.’
Moodswings was also proud to introduce celebs Jennie McAlpine and Katy Cavanagh aka Coronation Street’s Fiz and Julie, who dropped by especially to help out with the event, selling raffle tickets and showing their on-going support for the charity.
Manager Linda Wilson also expressed her gratitude for the club’s donation: ‘They could do it for their own funds but choose to do it for charity each year. It’s fantastic. We rely enormously on fundraising like this and without it we wouldn’t be able to continue. The more money we raise, the more people we can help and this will certainly help a lot of people in a lot of ways.’
