From the look on their faces it’s clear that everyone here at Moodswing’s weekly singing group is having a great time.
David Owen-Lewis has been an opera singer for 35 years and is now using his talent and passion for singing to take the people here on a new musical journey. Together with Pauline Thulborn on the piano, their enthusiasm brings the room to life.
The group started around 6 months ago and ‘Wicked’, ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘The King and I’ are just a few of the musicals that the group chose to sing songs from.
They are now planning to have a party in a few months time where they will all be showing off their singing and even some acting skills.
On Monday we were lucky enough to hear the group's fantastic and fun rendition of ‘Popular’ from the West-end’s ‘Wicked’ in which everyone has been given roles and parts to sing on their own.
It’s plain to see that everyone has grown so much in confidence as the weeks have gone on. “It’s hard for people to do this kind of thing for the first time” David told us “Some of them were very nervous but look how brilliantly they’re doing now!”
Pauline originally came to help out here one week because David couldn’t make it: “I was so touched by how every one was so supportive of me and wanted to make sure I was at ease” she says, and she’s been coming back ever since!
The warmth and friendliness here is what really makes this group special, it’s obvious that everyone has really come together and got to know each other so well.
So while these people are learning to come out of their shells through singing they’re all making great friends at the same time: “I think it’s magnificent” said one member, “Simply magnificent!”
